Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman is the third child of the family. As a young girl the father was a carnival barker and left her mother no option but to become a cleaner woman and waitress to feed the family. Ruth was raised in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts in which she went to the school. The school she attended within two years of her education in pursuit of acting as a profession. There were many hurdles to overcome on the path she chose to pursue. When she was in New York she was hired to take photos in a crime magazine however, no theatre opportunities were offered. When she was employed as a hat-check woman in a nightclub she quit her job and moved back to Boston. She was an usherette during the day and then was a part of the New England Repertory Company by evening, her first ever permanent acting job. She was a drama student in The Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
